Adventure is Out There!

You probably recognise the quote from "Up". It's such a lovely movie, isn't it? I though that this quote would be perfect for my travel diary. When I turned 16, I decided to make a separate scrapbook that essentially shows everywhere I've been. I thought it was a cool idea and a great way to remember my times away. So far the countries and cities I've been to and have stuck into my diary are Spain, London, Sligo, Cape Clear (island off cork), Rock of Gibraltar and Geneva in Switzerland. Here's some photos I took.
This probably sounds stupid but I'm kinda hoping to travel to every county in the world. I know if I'm I 'm being realistic, it is highly unfeasible. I mean, do I really want to visit a county that is condemned with disease and war? Who knows, maybe I'll become a charity worker.
Happy blogging!

Inspiration Board DIY

Yesterday, I was busy making this really cute and unique inspiration poster. I recently took everything down off my walls, so they were looking a little bare and I thought they needed more of a personal touch rather than all the celebrities posters that made it impossible to find the door. I'm not quite finished yet, but I was really excited about this craft idea that I just had to blog about it.

All you need
a notice board or even an A3 sheet of paper
Glue
Lots of pretty pictures, all the same size
Cut-outs from magazines that inspire you
(and if you're using a notice board, maybe some thumbtacks)

I printed off pictures from weheartit and then glued them on to create side borders. At either end, I scribbled "Inspiration" and "Board", I made a dashed line to spate the words from the centre, also making a stitched look.
Then I filled the centre with lots of little bits and bobs that I really like. In the corner, I drew a bookshelf and have so far placed a few books (drawings and pictures) on it.
You can fill this space with anything you like. Some quotes are a really good idea.
This board can be themed as well. For instance, if you're having trouble with the (seriously annoying) question "What are you planning to do with you're life?", then forget money and college, just picture what you would like to do, be or see and find those pictures/ write them out and then stick them on the board!

It's as easy as crumb pie!
Enjoy!

Assemble like in the picture:

"Dad! Please don't snicker
But I was in a time Crunchie
Organising your Birthday Gift!
Since I've quit my job I've been
Living on buttons; otherwise I would
rent you a private Aero -plane
For one of your Turkish Holidays, or
Maybe even an Orbit around the
Galaxy! But for now I am just
Your Smartie Pants Daughter! I seem
To get More Nuts every year, but you
Continue to be a true Golden oldie!
Enjoy taking Time Out to eat this card!
                                Love                  "

Or else you can phrase it like this, if you've never had a job.

"Daddy! Sorry but I was in a time
Crunch organising your Birthday
gift! I have no job otherwise I would
wispa off on a private, fancy
Aero -plane for one of your
Turkish Holidays, or maybe even an
Orbit around Mars or
around the Galaxy. But for
now, I'm just your smartie pants
daughter. You're a Golden oldie,
the best Dad I could ask for. You're
a Starburst! Happy Birthday!
Enjoy your card. Love           "

Personally, I like the second one best; better choice of sweets..... ^_^

Virtual Hugs and Melting Crayons

Hello my lovely 54 FOLLOWERS!
I can't believe I have that many, so thank you, all, for following and commenting.
~~Virtual Hugs~~
About a week ago, I decided to finally try this awesome arty thing that I've seen all over pinterest and we heart it.
All you need for it is:
~a canvas
~crayons
~source of heat (hair dryer/ fire)
~paper
melted crayons...so cool! I have seen it with the crayons in a row - the circle is stunning!

Melted Crayon Art
All you have to do is glue really good quality crayons such as crayola, to desired place and blast with a hair dryer. Or what's even better is sticking it in front of the fire, leaning against something - but be sure to put some paper under the canvas, you know for the wax waste.
For the one I did, I cut out 2 pieces of paper circled at the top an stuck it under the crayons to block the wax from that part. When I was finished and the wax was hard I removed those papers and replaced them with black paper in the form of 2 people under umbrellas. But I have no photos because there's a problem with blogger uploading system so sorry!!

But here's a few similar to mine:
If It Means A Lot To You
melted crayons
I just really love melted crayon art, okay.

Okay I can't exactly find the right one but basically it's raining colour and there is a man on one side under an umbrella and a woman on the other side under an umbrella and their both looking at each other.
Has anyone else tried this?
If you haven't then I highly recommend it! Even if your not one bit artsy it is sooo easy.
Happy crayon melting!

Crafting Christmas Concepts

Are you trying to drop hints to your family about what you want for Christmas? Well, here's a really simple and effective way of getting across the message!

My Christmas Wish List!
1. Cut out a chunk of cardboard (I used a cereal box) and then cover it with wrapping paper.
2. Make a header. I drew it like a ribbon/scroll.
and then write your name.
(I also inked the sides to make it look aged)
3. Stick it to the top of your board.
4. Cut out a square of perty card and write Wish List with tip ex or marker.
5. Attach to board and write Christmas down the board.
6. Cut out lots of things you really want for Christmas from magazines etc. and clip them to the board using pegs or what ever is at home!

You can hang it in the hall so passer bys will glance at it and be inspired to get you a good present (for once).
Happy Crafting

P.S. There is still time to vote in the best Christmas movies of your choice. Keep scrolling down and you should find the post!

Gift idea

I think it is about time I do a craft post. It's been so long since I did my "usual stuff" (book reviews, craft, baking...)
A couple of weeks ago it was one of my friends birthday. It was over midterm and there was no way I would be near any shop so out came paper, scissors and double-sided tape.

A Memory Book
What you will need:
5 blank cards
scissors or even better a paper slicer for straight lines
double sided sellotape
ribbons
punch holer
foam stickers to give the impression of 3-D
pretty paper with lots of design
and a few pictures of the person who will own it

1. stick the cards together as shown in picture. (make sure the front resembles opening a book)
2. pick plain coloured paper for background. Cut to right size and stick to each page.
3. Then use pattern paper and cut at angles to look like like a pocket.
Make sure to only stick the sides of the pocket to give room for what will go inside
Continue until all pages are full
Then cut out 6 frames for the pictures so they fit into the pocket.
I forgot to take more pictures of this one, but here is one I completed last year
And don't forget the cover
That's it!

Happy crafting

Happy Birthday lil' Sis!

Recently, it was my lil' sister's Birthday and I was asked to make her a cake. After hours of struggling to decide on chocolate or vanilla (she's very picky) she finally says she wants a cookie cake!
Being the wonderful sister that I am, I made her a "cookie cake".
Basically it was just a giant cookie!

And just in case this failed I made a backup:
Adorkable Brownies!

(recipe coming soon to a blog near you)

And finally onto the card I made for her:
1. Colour a pattern on half a card.
2. On a separate colour card create another pattern.
3.And now onto one of my favourite scrapbooking techniques, stitching!
All this is, is drawing little lines one after the other.
Here: I put it on a green strip of paper to link both sides.

4. Add a little decor with a tag and ribbon

Fin!

Friday

Oh look.....

Hello to all,
I know what your saying. "Why did she title this post oh look?". Well your reading it aren't you?
I think I made my point.

Sending my thanks to Britney who has awarded me the belle blog award!
Yay!
I'm not going to go over the rules or my facts or the blogs I've tagged. But if you really want to see all that click HERE!
So Britney's questions:
1. What is your favourite quote?
I have many but one that comes to mind is: "In the end, it's not going to matter how many breaths you took, but how many moments took your breath away."
2. What do you think of the Olympics 2012?
Ammm.... I don't exactly get it. You know... I missed the
opening and it's on TV ALL day so I don't really watch it either. (Guilty, sorry) It's all about sport too so that decreases my interest even more.
But I do think it's very important and historic.
3. Do you think Scotland should get Independence?
Huh? No idea. Shouldn't there be some sort of vote. I know from the history we're taught in school about the North fighting for Independence caused an awful amount of violence and killing.( and it wasn't even that long ago) I'm anti- violence but I do stand up for rights!

I also want to share with you my writing piece that came in the runners up category at Siobhan Curham's blog writing competition.

Why I love writing

There is a problem. Yes, a big problem. See the title is highly inappropriate as I do not love writing. Nor do I even remotely like it. It is a bothersome and distressing ordeal. First you have to think of a storyline and plot. Look how that’s working out for me. I’m going completely against the topic. I’m commonly found dumbstruck with a pen in my hand. Nothing registering in my genius brain. My thoughts get jumbled up and I forget whether I’m supposed to be writing about my dream holiday travelling around the world, with a book in my hand or a fiercely dragon fighting a knight, destined to live happily ever after with a mystical princess. As you can see it is a big problem. A big problem indeed. And that’s not the half of it. How on earth am I supposed to write what’s going on in my far away mind. It’s difficult enough to focus on one idea at a time. And you’re asking me to write it down? I will forget my capitals letters and full stops. The whole two page essay will be one big sentence with approximately one hundred and fifty two “ands”. Every sentence will start with “I went”. At least my spelling will live through this deathly torment. Thank God for spell check is all I can say! Then after that there’s the proof read to make sure it makes sense. My beginning began in the 21st century where it meandered to the middle ages and came to sudden stop in the year 3000. That is when I start singing Busted's “ year three thousand” and press x without thinking and forgetting to save. There goes all my effort. My long hours spent in front of my thesaurus. So I can firmly tell you I do not like writing and I will never write again – wait … I’m writing!

I also have been obsessed with nail art with the last week. Here is only of my attempts:

If you haven't notice already, they are the logos of facebook, blogger, pinterest and twitter (this on came out really bad because it's the smallest of my nails.
I love reading (and looking) at Hellogiggles "nails of the day" so I wanted to try it out myself. I'm not sure where I got the idea or if someone has ever done this nail art before.
So what do you think?

Dream Catcher

In Native American culture, a dream catcher is a handmade object based on a willow hoop, on which a loose net or web is woven. The dream catcher is then decorated with personal and sacred items such as feathers and beads.
To me a dream catcher is something pretty to hang on my wall.
So I made one myself.

It was really simple and a great gift idea. Each one is unique and nearly anything can be added to it i.e photos, ribbons, buttons.
I started off using and empty sellotape role and wrapping pretty wool around it.
The bigger the circle the better as it will spread the feathers out. I made some sort of  a net in the centre of both circles and attached feathers as so. I connected both using plaited wool.

Hang it over your bed or somewhere in your room to get rid of bad dreams!

I really love dream catchers and all things crafty. If you've made anything like this comment or add a link if you have a picture of it.

As you can see I have a wool collection because of the many times I've tried knitting. I've never been very succesful at it but this year I might give it another shot... maybe.
Happy Tuesday!

Happy Father's Day

Today I dedicated a whole page of my scrapbook to my Dad!
The inspiration came from my Dad's reading glasses. They're like a magnifying glass so everything looks bigger through them. I imagined them on a newspaper  with the words behind the glass, standing out.
From there I designed this page. I'm sure you could add to it and make it a whole front page of a newspaper. Or if you have a lot more time than I have, you could type it yourself and make it all out about him.
Thanks for being the best Dad in the World!

The most basic Scrapbooking

Enough with all that fancy (and really expensive) paper and back to good ol' plain colour card.
I set myself a rule of using only the most basic essentials. So this meant no pretty flowers or ready made frames!

I chose the colours as in the picture for the card. After a lot of thinking i came up with a template.
