Interview #4

I'd like to welcome Sophie from her blog A Day Dreamer's World! Her blog is another one of my favourites most likely because she is a bookish blogger and her posts are always worth reading.

~You are a book blogger so I won't dare ask what is your favourite but is there any book at the moment you recommend people read?

 Haha! I love answering questions about my favourite books because it means I get to talk about them. But, seriously, it's so hard!

Yes, how dare you for even raising a question like this Marian! ;)

 

If you haven't read The Hunger Games, I really suggest it! It's my favourite book, and it deserves all the reads it's getting! Katniss is such a strong-heroine, you'll be rooting her on and it's both powerful and emotional. Just buy this book!

 

Some others that I cannot express how much you need to read are Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas, Geek Girl by Holly Smale and The Selection by Kiera Cass. There all different, but I think there's something for everyone in this list!

 

~Where do you like to read?

 I can read pretty-much anywhere. Just give me a comfy seat and a good book and I'm fine. But, I love to read in my room, with some music playing on low volume.

 

~What inspired you to start blogging?

 I saw a Tweet with a link to a Blog on 'Blogger' and at this time, I was looking into doing something like it and was on Tumblr. When I saw how organised Blogger was, I just knew I wanted to be a part of the whole community - and I'm so thankful everyone has welcomed me up. And my love of books overall made it become a Book Blog - especially Jacqueline Wilson!

 

~How did your blog name "A Day Dreamer's World" come about?

 I have no idea! Honestly, I can't remember! I tried out quite a few names first but in the end it seemed the only one that would last! I'm always day-dreaming so, I guess it suits me.

~If there was anything in life you could do what would it be?

 Become a New York Times Bestselling author, along with working on Film Sets across the world.

 

~Have you told many people about your blog?

 Not really. My parents and close family/friends know, because I started writing for my local newspaper and It had to be said then! Recently, my class in school discovered that I have a blog but still don't know the name! I'm keeping quiet!

 

~What is your favourite thing about blogging?

 There are so many things but I think it would be the people I get to chat to online and meet!  I get to discuss what I love most and have experienced and grown so much throughout the past year. I still don't understand how my blog got to where it is now!

 

~Lastly, if you were to rename your blog what would you choose?

 Fiction Freak! I'm thinking about changing it at the moment, but I'm not sure. A Day Dreamers World will always be a part of me nevertheless.

A Shorty Story in just 6 words!

So my English homework for today is to write a short story with no more and no less than SIX words. This is inspired by the inventor Ernest Hemingway. In the 1920s, Ernest Hemingway’s colleagues bet him that he couldn’t write a complete story in just six words. They paid up. Hemingway is said to have considered it his best work.

"For sale: baby shoes, never worn."

And I have to agree with him. It is simple but shocking. Everything a short story should be.

I've come up with a lot of them so far and it has actually been really fun. Here are a few: please don't copy/use them.

 

Green man. Red man. Dead man.

 

Wife shopping. Husband cleaning. Still dirty.

 

Bottle found. Note inside. "Please Help!" 

 

So, how good a story can you invent with six words? (please don't google them)

My feeble attempt at regaining loyal followers

So you may or may not have noticed my absence from the internet world for about two weeks. This is the longest I have ever been away from my blog, and it feels a bit strange but also right to be back in front of the laptop screen. I don't have any acceptable excuses just that it was a build up of stress and I needed a time out. I refuse to make my blog a negative space so I refrained from any dull post during that time. But here I am now, ready to make amends to my followers.

Step One: Apologise
I am so very sorry for leaving you!!!

Step Two: Beg for Forgiveness
Please PLEASE accept my apology!!! I BEG YOU!!!! (falls to knees and clasps hands together while tears stream down cheeks.)

Step Three: Try to regain any dignity left after that last outburst
*Cough*  *Cough*

Step Four: Bribe followers to like my blog again
I'm hoping it won't come to this.....

How to ..... Be "Cool"

You may not have noticed but I am actually not that cool. Shocking, right? Well, down through the years, I’ve learned a thing or few about cool people. And, if you'd like to be cool then maybe you should take some of my advice - or not.

The best way to appear cool is by abbreviating everything. TBWTACIBAE! You must use this type of lingo to communicate to fellow cool people. This way, non-cool people will not understand. Just FYI.

You can get a similar effect by learning keywords such as “S’Up”, “Beour” and “Spud”. By calling these randomly to people, it will insure nerds and geeks don’t try to talk to you. And if by some chance, they haven’t got the message that you are cool and they are not, you can always ignore them with a dull vacant expression.

Coolness can only be accomplished if the Facebook profile pic contains a moody, make-up caked beour with her mouth pursed and a finger pressing into her cheek. This may seem easy, but it can take a number of hours in front of the mirror to perfect.

Another excellent way of appearing cool is to have a technological device hidden in your shirt pocket. To cool peeps this will be called the blackberry/iPhone/Gallaxy SIII Mini…. To knowledge aware students it is more commonly referred to as mobile/cell/Handy…. And to elders (that is the over 28s) it is a new gadget called a phone which is used for calling people!

Of course, there is the chance of getting cancer but it’s worth the sacrifice to be cool.

I recommend wearing skin tight shorts but they must not exceed the length of your baby finger. For school uniforms the skirt may be substituted and same length-rules apply. Collars up, is also another correct way to seam cool.

It is vital that you learn to laugh properly. You must laugh at everything cool-people say, even if it is not funny. The best way to master it is to practice fake laughing and soon enough no one will know the difference. Simple!

Despite how marvellous all these tips sound, coolness is not all that cool

A visit to FOTA!

Today, instead of  munching on what seems to be my only source of energy at the moment (chocolate), I spent the whole day in Fota! First I went to Fota Wildlife Park and had fun looking at all the animals. It's not a zoo so there's not many enclosures. That's the main reason why I love it there. Some animals get to wander wherever and whenever.

(but one bird didn't take well to my sister and sent her on a wild goose chase, but who can blame him)

 

Then I went on a guided tour at Fota House. This is a really big house that belonged to the SmithBarrys for the past few hundred years. It's really old and detailed. We were shown rooms like the watercolour room, library (but there was no books :(  ), Dorothy's room, butler's room, pantry....

But this wasn't the first time I'd been there. Last year I spent a good few days over the year at events because I designed an app called the Fota House Game app. I'm not sure if it will ever be produced but it was fun making and presenting it!

So if you are ever in Cork, do visit Fota for a day, it really is worth it!

Interview #3

My March interview is with the lovely Siobhán. So everyone give her a warm welcome. By clicking HERE you can find her blog "There's always light at the end of the tunnel"
And without further ado here is the interview.

1. First up, why did you start blogging?
Well it wasn't really by choice to be honest. It was part of my transition year I.T class. Every student in the class had to keep a blog to document the things we were doing during the year. The idea behind it was to replace the written folder of work each student would have to compile at the end of the year. I didn't take to it very well in the beginning but as time went by I realised that I loved writing and letting people know what was happening in my life.

2. What's your favourite thing about blogging?

That's a tough question. I never thought about it before, I guess my favourite thing would be sharing my story. My blog is a way for me to share my life experiences and help show others that no matter how bad things get that there is hope. I love that people can visit my blog and leave knowing that things get better. There is no limits to the things you can blog about and no matter what there is no stopping you. The freedom to express yourself and be who you really are is another one of my favourite things.

3. Any other hobbies?

Yes indeed!!

I love athletics and have been doing athletics for the past eleven years. I don't know what I would do without athletics in my life, it is such a huge part of me if I didn't have it I don't think I would be me.

Scouts is another one of my hobbies. I don't know why I love t so much I guess its the being active part and meeting new people. I have met people in scouts that have become like siblings to me and I would be lost without them.

Charity work especially related to mental health. I will do anything I can to try and make a difference to the way in which people in our society view mental health. I have been on the receiving end of stigma and so I want to make a difference and ensure young people do not have to experience what I went through in relation to stigma of mental health.

4. Do many of your friends know about your blog?

Hmm I like to think so. I know that my close friends know and any of the friends I made while in transition year know because we were all in the same boat then and we all knew about each others blogs. As I am a very active blogger and post links on facebook and twitter most of my friends would be aware of my blog. I guess being in local newspapers and kiss magazine and the fact I never shut up about my blog means that people know I blog, weather or not they read it is another questions all together.

5. How did you choose the name of your blog?

I don't really have a very good answer to this questions. I use to have lots of different quotes stuck on my bedroom wall and Theres always light at the end of the tunnel was one of them. I just decided I like it and figured that if I ever did want to write about really personal things in my life the title would suit. It shoe people that there is hope and one of the main thins my blog is about is providing hope for those who need it most.

6. What's your favourite animal?

That's a bit of a random question. Emm well I guess my favourite animal would have to be either a dog or goldfish.

7. I guess it is a bit random.... In a totally different direction then, what is your ambition in life?

Hmm well my ambition in life is to..... I don't know really. I guess I would like to go to college and do youth work. I hope that I will be able to help people in life and make a difference.
